Taking a Ride

OK folks. Here is my latest update for the Kostamo family. A few days ago, Eric was out cutting the grass with the riding lawnmower and Riley decided that he was very interested in it. So we went outside to see it close up and he was just dying to hop on with daddy and go for a ride. So, Eric drove up and down the street with him. It was so cute!! Riley was even helping Eric steer the lawnmower. I guess that he is going to turn out just like his dear old Dad.... loves to be outside and work in the yard.
During the past few weeks sense my last post, a lot of things have happened. We have FINALLY found a permanent babysitter for Riley while I finish school. This takes a huge weight off of my shoulders. Riley is almost walking. The most steps he has taken in a row without falling is 9. And he is getting really good and traveling inbetween the furniture without hitting the floor!!
Today, as I was pulling into the driveway, Eric and Riley were outside in the front yard playing in the grass. When I got out of the car, they told me that they learned a new trick... how to roll down the hill!! So, Eric took Riley up to the top of the front yard and started flipping him over, rolling him down the hill. Riley LOVED it and could not stop laughing!
Oh, and one more thing that I need some expert advise on. It now seems like Riley does not want to go down to sleep at night. He will only lay down and go to sleep in his bed if either me or Eric are laying on the floor next to the bed in his room. If we try to lay him down and walk out of the room, he screams bloody murder. This is a new thing for him within the last week or so. I don't want to have to lay in the floor everytime he needs to take a nap or go to sleep at night, so what do I do?? I tried to let him cry himself to sleep, but he kept on (for over 30 minutes). So I gave in and went into the room and layed on the floor with him, and he drifted right off. What is a good way to solve this problem?
That's all for this time. See ya'll in a week or two!!

Hey!! I love the haircut. When do you finish school?? For the sleeping issue, try playing a tape of soothing kids songs or a storybook on tape. It worked for a friend of mine. If that doesn't work, I have known parents to try the "cry it out" method for an hour or more. It's excruciating (apparently) but I hear it works after just a couple of nights.

We leave music on for him when we put him down for "nite-nite". But he still screams and cries. I know separation anxiety is normal, but I can't bring myself to let him "cry it out" for a hour or more. I finish school in about a year. I'm glad you like the haircut. Oh and BTW, he just walked half-way across our dining room!!!

Hmmm... The only other thing I've heard is to have a specific routine that you do every night. Like bath, book, bed. You probably do that already, though. I agree - an hour is a long time to hear your child scream! So, basically I'm out of ideas. Good luck!

Hey back! I saw someone gave me a "shout out" on Jessica's blog, and I had no idea who it was, since no one let me know you had a kid!

As for sleeping, I would recommend NyQuil. I've heard this is the reason I shouldn't have kids...

Tell Meredith I said hi, since she hasn't come back to see us in, oh, ever...
