Roo,
When you were born, you made a dream come true for me. I always wanted to be a mommy, and at 11:39pm on Thursday, August 3rd, 2006, you made that dream a reality. The circumstances surrounding your birth were hectic and unexpected. But after a failed induction and 24 hours of labor, you arrived via c-section (the BIG cut on my tummy) and I finally got to meet you. I remember laying in the operating room, anxiously waiting to hear your first cry. The minute I heard it, a rush of emotions came over me. Relief that you were ok, joy that you were finally here, and absolute, unconditional love for this new little life that God had sent to me.
I feel so lucky that I get to be your mommy.
Over the past 5 years, you have been such a joy to your Daddy and I. We have loved every minute of it and can't wait for all the years to come. We have loved watching you grow up into the sweetest, smartest, most wonderful boy any mom and dad could ask for. I know that there are great things to come for you, Riley. We can't wait to see what they are!
This past year has been big one for you! You went to Pre-K (and graduated). Got a new baby brother (who you love to pieces), went on your very first vacation to see Aunt Mimi in Savannah, and you mastered reading over the summer. And just 2 days ago, you started kindergarden. So far, you say that you like it, but have also admitted to being bored. I can already tell that we are going to have to do lots of enrichment activites at home to add to your cirruculum at school. You're such a smartie :) You have also showed a lot of interest in playing the piano and I started giving you piano lessons a few weeks ago. You know the musical alphabet and can locate the keys on the keyboard and can clap out the rythym of the notes in the songs that we are practicing. Quite impressive for a 5 year old!
I hope that today, you have the most specialest of days (even though you're in school). I'm so proud of who you are and who you are becoming. I love you more than the trees, the sky, the moon and the whole outer space!!
Love,
Mommy

Can't wait to see pictures of his birthday party. And yes, he is the sweetest, cutest, smartest boy in the world! I told you he would be bored in school and you would eventually see a drastic slow-down in his learning. Ahhh...the joys of public education. I'm glad he is taking an interest in piano. Maybe sometime in the fall he can spend the weekend and I can take him to a symphony concert to inspire him further.
Love, Gramma
