A Quick Hello

We've been busy here at our house this week. I guess that the most important thing to note is that we are going to have to re-do our master bathroom (well, at least the shower and the tile around our bath tub). Let it be stated that we have only been in our house for 6 years, so you wouldn't think that any MAJOR renovations or fixes would come up so soon...... but honestly Eric and I are starting to get the feeling that we bought a money pit (if you haven't seen that very funny 80's movie, you should). Anyway's, back to my story. For the past few years the grout between our tile has been flaking off and falling out. So basically what has happened is that some of the bottom tiles in the shower had become loose and Eric took them off. When he removed them it opened a whole can of worms that we are soooooo not prepared for (and this is what I feared was going to happen all along). It seems that the *insert choice word here* people who built our house chose to adhere the bathroom tile directly to the dry wall. They didn't place the correct backerboard behind the tile (you know, the water resistant stuff), so what we found as we started to pull off more tile was that the dry wall behind the tile was completely wet and covered with MOLD!!!!! It went all the way through the dry wall and into the insulation.... it was that bad. So now we are faced with the prospect of doing a partial bathroom demo (let me at it!!) and building a new shower. We have a contractor coming out on Monday morning to take a look at it. We soooooo do not need this headache right now.
These pictures were just taken this evening while Eric was out cutting the grass.

I think all houses are money pits. Home ownership is not all it's cracked up to be. We are renovating our house as well. Lots of time and effort. Good luck with yours. Love, Aunt Kathy
